As a small business owner I know it can be overwhelming when you think about all the marketing activities you need to undertake to grow your business. Not only that, in most cases your marketing budget is limited!

So I have created an infographic and a post on 7 great FREE marketing tools your small business should be using to save time and give you a competitive advantage.

Here is the list in written form and more detail:

Canva is a simple, free graphic design software for non designers.

Whilst I would recommend getting your logo or brochures designed professionally by a graphic designer,  Canva is a great tool for small businesses to create quick graphics including social media ads and images, blog banners, invitations, cards, website graphics, infographics and more!

2. Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a free website analytics program that tracks and reports on Website Traffic.

The way it works is a tracking code is placed on each page on your website and  you are able to view  data through the analytics dashboard.  It can provide really valuable information such as page views, visits, traffic sources, geographic locations of your visitors, mobile vs desktop traffic, length of time on site and more.

It is crucial you include google analytics on your site if you haven’t already. Ask your developer to set this up or if you have a wordpress site you can install yourself with a simple plug in.

3. Buffer

According to Buffer, using the solution is  “the best way to drive traffic, increase fan engagement and save time in social media.”

You can easily share any page you are reading and if you keep your Buffer topped up with content it will automatically be shared at the most appriate times throughout the day.

I personally use Buffer and find it an amazing time saving tool that allows me to schedule all  social media posts in one place.

4. Google Keyword Tool

Keyword research is used to find and research actual search terms that people enter into search engines.

Doing keyword research will help you identify the best keywords for your business. These keywords will then be used for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and google advertising if you decide to go down this path.

According to Moz ”Keyword research is one of the most important, valuable, and high return activities in the search marketing field. Ranking for the right keywords can make or break your website.”

The google keyword tool provides valuable information on keyword volumes and other keywords that may be similar to those you are targeting. This is useful when determining  keywords to include in your website for SEO purposes.

5. Mail Chimp

One of the email marketing programs I use regularly is Mail Chimp. It is simple to use and is perfect for start up’s and small businesses.

Some benefits include:

  • Loads of email templates and a simple drag and drop designer
  • Integrates with hundreds of different sites including WordPress, Shopify, Big Commerce, Lead Pages, Event Brite, Google and Facebook
  • Built in sign up forms for your website
  • Great reporting to determine results of your campaigns

6. Google Alerts

This service is a great tool for monitoring interesting new content on the web. It can help with  content curation, particularly for social media sharing. You can set up alerts for different keywords or topics, with an email being sent to you for every piece of content that is posted on the web with that topic.

You might like to write your own blog on the topic or simply share the article on your social media channels.  You can even set it up so you are alerted if an article contains your business name.

As an example, I have alerts set up for email marketing, social media, facebook, marketing strategy just to name a few.

7. Survey Monkey

It is important to regularly survey your customers or potential customers to ensure your product or service is relevant and meets their needs.

Survey Monkey allows you to easily create surveys and then send out a link via email, text, online or social media to gather responses.

You are able to access reporting to quickly see the responses and determine trends.

I personally use all of these amazing tools and hope they also provide value to you! Do you use any other great free tools that aren’t on this list? I would love to hear from you!
